Making visits more comfortable for nervous patients

Sometimes all it takes to help a patient feel calm and comfortable at the dentist is an excellent chairside manner and being listened to. We hear only too often that people are afraid of the dentist and this is something we work very hard to avoid – just take a look at our Testimonials page to read what lots of once-phobic patients have to say about our care.

Being frightened of the dentist can mean you avoid your essential dental health examinations, only booking an appointment when you are in pain or have a dental emergency. We understand this but would like to explain that we do all we can to help put nervous patients at ease, so that eventually you may even look forward to your appointments.

We try to make sure our appointments are unhurried and any treatment is taken at a speed you are comfortable with. We also offer IV sedation and pain-free injections with The Wand.

What is The Wand?

The Wand is a new painless injection system that uses a computer controlled anaesthetic delivery. Most people do not even realise that the injection is being done and it allows us to numb-up just one tooth rather than your whole mouth.

Who can have dental sedation?

Intra-venous sedation can be given to adults who are fit enough and it is provided privately for dental treatment.

When would I need to have IV sedation?

Patients with severe anxiety or phobia are ideal candidates for IV sedation and it is also useful for unpleasant or prolonged procedures.

What is IV sedation and how is it administered?

One of the benefits of IV sedation is that patients feel the treatment has only taken a matter of minutes when it may have taken hours. This allows complex dental treatment, which may normally take several visits, to be completed in fewer appointments. An injection is administered at Guildhall Dental by a dental sedationist with 30 years’ experience or by a consultant anaesthetist.
